Chapter 17 The Ramadan In which Queequeg observes Ramadan by fasting. Ishmael speaks of his respect for all religious rites  (though they are “stark nonsense”,” Lents” included) as we are “all somehow dreadfully cracked about the head, and sadly need mending” and questions our worship of land owners “merely on account of the inordinate possessions yet owned and rented in his name.”
